21 Days National Refresher Course on “Innovations in Animal Health in the Scenario of Climate Change and Global Warming” (NRC-2026)

About

Livestock products are an important agricultural commodity for global food security because they provide 17% of global kilocalorie consumption and 33% of global protein consumption. The livestock sector contributes to the

livelihoods of one billion of the poorest population in the world and employs close to 1.1 billion people. Global demand for livestock products is expected to double by 2050, mainly due to improvement in the worldwide standard of living. Meanwhile, climate change is a threat to livestock production because of the impact on quality of feed crop and forage, water availability, animal and milk production, livestock diseases, animal reproduction, and biodiversity. There is growing interest in understanding the interaction of climate change and animal health and it is motivating a significant amount of research. There is still limited research regarding the impacts of climate change on livestock health. Innovations in animal health to combat the effects of climate change and global warming are focusing on increasing livestock resilience to heat stress, preventing the surge of vector-borne diseases, and improving nutritional efficiency to lower greenhouse gas emissions. Key advancements include

precision livestock farming (PLF), genomic selection, advanced vaccines, and AI-driven monitoring systems.

Within this complex background, this Refresher Course will facilitate and provide professional, skill based and job-oriented trainings, cum awareness programme to the scientists, teachers and students of animal husbandry and allied sectors; regarding innovations in animal health in the scenario of climate change and global warming.
